Additive manufacturing of topology-optimized large components

Complex lightweight structures can be produced in a resource-efficient manner with low production costs using laser powder deposition welding. The method can also potentially replace conventionally manufactured large components. The project partners Fraunhofer IWS, Photon, Arnold, and Bombardierare aiming for a weight reduction of 10 to 15%for components oin rail vehicle technology.
