Additive manufacturing of topology-optimized large components

Laser powder cladding can be used to produce complex lightweight structures in a resource-saving manner and with low production costs. The process can also potentially replace conventionally manufactured large components. The project partners Fraunhofer IWS, Photon, Arnold and Bombardier are aiming for a weight reduction of 10 to 15 % for components in rail vehicle technology.
