Photon AG: Innovation partner for the new tram era in Berlin

BVG Straßenbahn Modell „Urbanliner“ mit Photon-Elementen

Berlin is getting an upgrade: 74 new Alstom Urbanliner trams will soon be shaping the cityscape and significantly expanding public transport capacity. With Photon AG as a partner for special components, a new era of modern mobility is beginning.

The “Urbanliner” project

The new trams, part of an extensive contract between Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe and Alstom, are characterized by their innovative design and technical superiority. They come in two versions: a 30-meter and an impressive 50-meter version that can carry up to 312 passengers. These trams are specially designed to meet the requirements of busy lines such as the M4 and are expected to significantly increase efficiency and comfort in public transport. With features such as lower energy consumption, improved accessibility, and state-of-the-art design, they set new standards for environmentally friendly and user-friendly urban transport.

Photon's technological expertise in action

Photon AG's advanced laser welding technology is crucial for implementing the environmental and user-friendliness of the new Urbanliners. The demanding production of subassemblies for the side walls and complete wheel arches made of stainless steel is carried out in a semi-automated production process, which not only ensures strict quality requirements for materials and workmanship, but also high cycle times. The technical precision of laser welding makes it possible to reliably produce the sophisticated components and contributes significantly to the durability and cost-effectiveness of the trams.

A contribution to the mobility transition

With its involvement in this project, Photon AG is once again demonstrating its expertise in manufacturing technology and underlining its role as an important innovation partner in the field of urban infrastructure development in Berlin. Thanks to its specialized technological capabilities, the company is making a significant contribution to making the new trams not only more functional but also more economically sustainable.
