The advantages of laser welding technology—high process speed, high quality, and new design possibilities—have long been recognized in rail vehicle construction. However, each project has its own, often very specific requirements. In the case of the Canadian luxury panorama train “Rocky Mountaineer,” it was above all the enormous dimensions of the components to be joined that caused the Photon experts quite a headache. Participants at the 13th SLV symposium “Joining and Design in Rail Vehicle Construction” in Halle learned how the laser welding pioneers from Berlin mastered this and other challenges.
